Life on Steroids

This is the first post in my personal blog. I registered the domain MillardBaker.com a few years ago, primarily so that no one else would take it. Even though I’ve been making a living exclusively on the internet for over a decade, I never really wanted to start a personal website. A Google search on “millard+baker” finds few pages related to me. This is not easy to do especially given my extensive involvement on the internet since 1996. So I’m proud that, up to this point, Google does not know too much about me.

The relevant entries on the first two pages of results include the following:

The first entry relates to an inteview I did with bodybuilding and steroid guru Author L. Rea that was published on Bodybuilding.com

The next entry is the main store page of one of my websites. My name does not appear anywhere on Mesomorphosis.com. According to Google, the reason it has a relatively high rank is that the terms “millard+baker” only appear in links pointing to this page but not on the actual website.

There is also a Google listing of a New York Times article where I was interviewed while I was in grad school. The journalist interviewed me for over an hour but only selected a single quote or two. Nonetheless, I guess it was nice to be quote by the the New York Times.  Interestingly, the article linked me indirectly BALCO steroid scandal’s Patrick Arnold, former IOC steroid hunter Don Catlin and baseball great Mark McGwire. I guess it is a good thing that the public appearance of my name alongside these individuals last occurred almost ten years ago!

The abandonment of my relative anonymity on the Internet will likely change the Google results within a few weeks.
